These spend based offers are just based on the amount spend, and there are no category minimums or maximums here as per the terms and conditions.

As a reminder, there is no way to figure out how these offers get rolled out, so there is no point trying to tax your brain on it. For instance, shipra got two offers on her MRCC and platinum charge card, and I drew nothing.

There is another offer for the amex reward multiplier going on at the moment and offering 15 membership rewards points/INR 100 spent on all amex issued cards till january 26, 2021. Washington post employees to receive $2,021 ‘special bonus’ for ‘exceptional service’

Bonus comes after owner jeff bezos, the chief executive of amazon, saw his net worth climb $75.4 billion in 2020

That’s because all washington post employees are receiving a “special bonus” of $2,021 within the next week, wapo reporter jose A. Del real tweeted on thursday night. (wapo reporter mike rosen also confirmed the new year’s bonus.)

Inbox: every washington post employee will receive a special bonus in the amount of $2,021 next week, per an email from fred ryan, our publisher, as a sign of ”gratitude for your exceptional service through the challenges of 2020.”

Per del real’s tweet, wapo publisher fred ryan said in an email the bonus is a sign of “gratitude for your exceptional service through the challenges of 2020.” the paper, like most other major outlets, covered the COVID-19 pandemic and 2020 presidential race, among other topics, last year. About 2,700 people work at the washington post, per owler, which includes approximately 800 journalists; that means $5.46 million in bonuses will be handed out overall.

The bonuses come after the paper’s owner, amazon chief jeff bezos, had another strong financial year despite the economic wreckage brought on by the pandemic. Bezos closed the year worth $190 billion — firmly entrenched as the world’s richest person — after seeing his net worth climb $75.4 billion, according to bloomberg, in 2020.

It’s unclear if amazon employees will also be receiving a bonus to kick off 2021. A rep for the tech giant didn’t immediately respond to thewrap’s request for comment. Amazon announced in late november its front-line workers would receive a $300 holiday bonus, and its part-time workers would get a $150 bonus.

2021 selective retention bonus program released

WASHINGTON (AFNS) -- department of the air force officials released details dec. 10 on the fiscal year 2021 selective retention bonus program, which includes 37 eligible air force specialties.

“overall retention levels are at record highs and manning within many of our career fields is healthy,” said lt. Gen. Brian kelly, air force deputy chief of staff for manpower, personnel and services. “this reduces our requirement and opportunity to utilize retention bonuses to the same extent.”

The program is designed to improve the retention of experienced airmen and space professionals in stressed career fields or those with high training costs.

The department of the air force will spend more than $55 million for the FY 2021 program, which includes 37 total air force specialty codes, including 28 that remain eligible from the mid-year FY 2020 SRB program. Nine afscs were added to the program and 40 afscs were removed from the list.

The FY 2021 SRB program goes into effect jan. 5, 2021. Members in skills identified for a reduction or termination, and who are currently eligible to reenlist, will have until feb. 4, 2021 to take advantage of the bonus at previous rates.

“we are giving members advanced notice of impacted afscs this year given the challenges associated with COVID-19,” kelly said. “we want to ensure our members have the right information and enough time to make informed career decisions.”

Departing CEO paid $5.2 million ‘retention’ bonus by nursing home chain that lost 2,800 residents to covid

Genesis healthcare approved the payment in october for its chief executive. This month he retired and received another bonus.

Buffeted by covid-19, struggling with crumbling finances, one of america’s largest nursing home chains gave its CEO a $5.2 million “retention payment” in late october, just as the second big wave of the pandemic was rising.

On jan. 5, nonetheless, george hager jr. Retired as head of genesis healthcare.

He will have to pay an unspecified amount of the money back, to avoid certain tax liabilities, according to an SEC filing by the company, but he will apparently be reimbursed over the next two years. The genesis board also agreed to give him an immediate $650,000 bonus and a $300,000 consulting contract, according to the filing. The company would not elaborate on the arrangement.

Under hager’s leadership the more than 300 genesis nursing homes experienced 14,352 confirmed cases of covid-19 through mid-december, according to reports the company made to medicare officials. The total number of residents who died of the disease was 2,812, as of dec. 20. Both figures are higher than in comparable nursing home chains.

Nearly all of the company’s nursing homes reported continuing shortages of personal protective equipment through the months of the pandemic, according to a washington post analysis of medicare data, with the situation easing only toward the end of november — after hager’s big payout was approved.

Since last summer, genesis, which has been signaling a financial squeeze since 2017 in its reports to the SEC, has been warning investors it may not be able to continue as a going concern because of high costs and low occupancy rates exacerbated by the pandemic.

“5.2 million is a lot of money given that nursing homes have been squawking about a lack of cash,” said brian lee, executive director of an advocacy group called families for better care. “yet they can take care of those they love best — those at the top.”

The company noted hager’s base salary of $900,000 had not been increased since 2017. He also received a $935,000 annual bonus in 2020.

In a november conference call, the company’s chief financial officer, tom divittorio, said, “we are more dedicated than ever to providing the highest quality care possible.”

The american health care association, which represents for-profit nursing home chains such as genesis and other health-care providers, has been vigorously lobbying for more federal assistance to meet the costs of the pandemic, on top of the more than $10 billion that the federal government has already committed to nursing homes for emergency aid.

“our nursing home providers are facing the worst financial crisis in the history of the industry due to increased costs related to covid,” said the head of the association, mark parkinson. “without adequate resources, the U.S. Will repeat the same mistakes made during the initial outbreak last spring.”

A survey of its members, the association reported, found that 86 percent of nursing homes are operating at a profit margin of 3 percent or less.

Critics point out, however, that some nursing home operators have become adept at funneling profits to affiliated companies, from which they buy a variety of services. A washington post investigation found the california-based brius chain has become a leader in this field. A post analysis found genesis is within the top five chains nationally in the amount of money each nursing home pays to affiliated entities. As income streams are dispersed, care suffers.

For-profit chains, which control about 70 percent of american nursing homes, have made the most use of this practice. “the residents are wasting away in soaked diapers and bowel movements for hours because the nursing homes are too cheap to do anything about it,” lee said. “they’re concerned about padding the bottom line at the expense of our loved ones.”

Genesis is in worse financial shape than most, despite considerable government assistance.

Through the first three quarters of 2020, the company said it received $254 million in federal relief tied to the pandemic, and pledges of $85 million from several of the states where it operates. An additional $90 million in payroll taxes was deferred. Medicare prepaid $157 million this year, as well — effectively providing an interest-free loan, but one that must be paid back starting this spring unless the terms are changed.

Yet it still reported a loss of $96 million for its 360 nursing homes and assisted-living centers during that period. (fourth-quarter figures have yet to be reported.)

The company is based in kennett square, pa., and its nursing homes in connecticut, massachusetts, new jersey, maryland and pennsylvania were especially hard hit by the coronavirus when it erupted last spring. In windsor, conn., 47 residents died at kimberly hall north; 42 died at st. Joseph’s, in trumbull; at chapel manor, in philadelphia, 38 died, and at voorhees center in new jersey, 42 died.

The chain’s overall covid death rate was higher than among some of its major competitors. One way to assess the rate is to compare deaths with the number of beds (though that does not take into account occupancy figures or turnover among residents). By that measure, genesis nursing homes had 1 death for every 12.5 beds. Signature healthcare had 1 death for every 14.3 beds; consulate health care, 1 death for every 20 beds; and life care centers of america was at about the national average of 1 death for every 16.7 beds.

“CEO compensation is determined by the compensation committee of our board of directors, composed entirely of three independent directors,” divittorio said in a statement provided to the post after hager retired. “the compensation committee works closely with an independent consultant to examine the effectiveness and reasonableness of our executive compensation program. The CEO base salary has remained unchanged since 2017 with 75 percent of comparable ceos paid more.”

Divittorio defended the company’s handling of the pandemic.

“genesis has been not only fully operational on the frontlines of this virus — our leadership and employees have been working around the clock to keep our patients, residents and staff members as safe as possible,” he said. “genesis has paid out tens of millions of additional ‘hero’ dollars to our staff and support staff on the frontlines of this battle. We thank them for their dedication and support. They are true heroes.”

In addition to approving the retention payment for hager, the genesis board also decided in october to put aside $2.1 million in a trust the company described as beyond the reach of creditors, to be used for bonuses for seven of the company’s high-ranking officers.

Through the spring, summer and early fall, most genesis nursing homes reported shortages every week of masks and protective eye gear. Unlike some other chains, the company has not reported significant staff shortages. In the november conference call with analysts, hager said the company had been seeing sharp increases in overtime pay and wages for temporary workers. In new jersey, second quarter labor costs were up 65 percent over the same period in 2019, he said.

“there is no question genesis will need ongoing support from the federal government and our capital partners to sustain operations,” hager said in that call. “we are aggressively managing liquidity at every turn. That being said, we are still burning cash.”

Genesis shares, which traded at $1.77 in february, hit a low of 48 cents in late december, but have been volatile so far this year following hager’s retirement, rising since states have begun to administer the coronavirus vaccines.

Part of genesis’ business is providing rehabilitation services to other nursing home chains. Hager said that sector has been “resilient throughout the pandemic.”

Hager had been CEO since 2003, guiding the company out of a 2000 bankruptcy. In 2017, genesis agreed to pay a $53 million settlement in a federal false claims case. The government alleged companies later acquired by genesis had submitted “false claims to government health care programs for medically unnecessary therapy and hospice services” and provided “grossly substandard nursing care.” in paying the settlement, genesis did not acknowledge wrongdoing.

Genesis has been hobbled by some of the highest rental and lease costs of any major chain. Its nursing home real estate is typically owned by other investors, and the leases often contain mandated annual increases. Except for some loans guaranteed by the department of housing and urban development, most of the loans taken out by genesis have interest rates of between 6.5 percent and 14 percent, according to its SEC filings — far higher than a typical home mortgage, for instance.

The company’s real estate costs are especially high in virginia and west virginia, a post analysis of cost data reported to the centers for medicare and medicaid services found. Divittorio declined to comment on those expenses.

Genesis said it is working with its creditors in a bid to restructure its $1.5 billion long-term debt.

While hager is staying on as a consultant, the genesis board chairman, robert fish, will take over as CEO. “I am pleased to become genesis’s chief executive officer and am excited to lead the company as we look to emerge from the pandemic and navigate to recovery,” fish said in a prepared statement.

Fish’s base salary is $1,150,000. The board gave him a $350,000 signing bonus and promised $1 million more if he meets certain goals by the end of june. He is also eligible for a $1.3 million annual bonus.

Rollover nights, bonus points and extensions: here’s what IHG rewards club is doing for its members in 2021

I’m not sure when I’ll get back on the road. Even so, I’m excited about several announcements today from IHG rewards club.

If you have hotel stays planned for the next few months, IHG has launched a promotion that can boost your earnings and help you qualify for elite status quicker. But, even if you don’t have plans to travel in the next few months, some of IHG’s announcements may still apply to you.

So, let’s take a closer look at what IHG rewards club is doing for its members in 2021.

Elite qualification in 2021

IHG made two important announcements today regarding elite qualification in 2021. First off, IHG will extend the reduced elite-qualification requirements implemented in 2020 through 2021.

However, IHG also announced today that all qualifying nights earned by elite members in 2020 would be rolled over to 2021. In particular, these nights will count toward earning status in 2021. Although my rollover nights have not yet posted, IHG said that 2020 rollover nights will automatically appear in member accounts by the end of march.

Finally, if you don’t want to worry about qualifying for elite status each year, the IHG® rewards club premier credit card provides platinum elite status as a cardholder benefit. Plus, the card offers several other perks useful to IHG rewards club loyalists, such as a fourth-night reward benefit on award stays.

Bonus points promotion

On top of reduced elite qualification requirements and rollover nights for elites, IHG rewards club is making it even easier to earn points and status in 2021. Specifically, IHG rewards club has unveiled a promotion that allows members to earn 2,000 bonus points for every two nights stayed between jan. 20 and mar. 31, 2021. Best of all, these bonus points are elite-qualifying.

However, you must register for this promotion before your first stay. Once you register, you can earn bonus points based on the number of nights stayed between jan. 20 and mar. 31, 2021, at IHG brand hotels. If you begin your stay before jan. 20, 2021, or end your stay after mar. 31, 2021, you’ll only earn bonus points for the dates within the promotional period.

Note that you’ll earn 2,000 bonus points for every two nights stayed. So, you’ll earn 2,000 bonus points after a two-night stay or two one-night stays. Likewise, if you have a three-night stay and then a one-night stay, you’ll earn 4,000 bonus points.

There are several fine-print terms to consider. For example:

You must book a qualifying rate with a total spend of $30 per night or more

You can only participate in one IHG rewards club promotion at a time unless allowed explicitly by IHG

The maximum number of bonus points you can earn through this promotion is 70,000 points

Only one room per member per night may earn bonus points

It may take four to six weeks after checkout for bonus points to be credited to your account

Even if you don’t plan to use this promotion, it’s worth registering. Although I’ve seen some excellent award night redemption rates recently, this promotion may be enough to convince you to book a paid rate instead of redeeming IHG rewards club points.

Credit card anniversary nights

The anniversary night that comes with the IHG® rewards club premier credit card is one of the primary reasons I’m happy to pay the IHG premier card‘s annual fee. In mar. 2020, IHG extended anniversary night certificates set to expire mar. 1, 2020 or later to dec. 31, 2020. And IHG announced that all new certificates issued in 2020 would be valid for 18 months (six months longer than the usual 12 months of validity).

But, as 2020 came to a close, many IHG rewards club members still had unused anniversary night certificates set to expire on dec. 31, 2020. IHG rewards club decided to issue new anniversary night certificates to effectively extend unused certificates set to expire on dec. 31, 2020. And these new anniversary night certificates carry an aug. 31, 2021 expiration date.

Now, IHG announced that anniversary night certificates with an original 2021 expiration date would be valid through dec. 31, 2021. Importantly, this new extension won’t apply to previously extended certificates. As such, this extension primarily applies to certificates issued in the first six months of 2020.

Points expiration

IHG rewards club points usually expire after 12 months of inactivity. But, points don’t expire for current IHG rewards club elites. And IHG has paused points expiration through june 30, 2021 for non-elite club members.

So, even if you don’t hold elite status with IHG rewards club, you don’t currently need to worry about earning or redeeming points to keep your rewards balance alive. However, set a reminder for mid-june to earn or redeem IHG rewards club points.

Bottom line

All of these announcements from IHG rewards club are exciting. The program is working to keep members engaged and provide flexibility for members to travel when they’re ready.

Even if you already have platinum elite status through the IHG premier card, rollover nights, promotions and decreased elite-qualification requirements may encourage you to push for spire elite status in 2021.

Bonus e-mail 2021

IHG has announced the details of their first significant promotion for 2021, which has been designed to offer bonus points to their guests and help them earn status faster.

The new IHG rewards club global promotion is offering 2000 bonus points with every stay of two nights or more, for stays between january 20 and march 31, 2021. Registration is required before an eligible stay, so better sign up right away so that you don’t have to remember later. Members will be able to earn up to 70,000 bonus points during the promotion. Only paid nights to qualify, and your rate paid should be over USD 30 per night.

Earn IHG rewards club status easily in 2021

Not just that, IHG rewards club is also extending the minimum of 25% reduction in elite qualifying criteria for another year, through 2021 as well. This reduction is open, whether you are qualifying based on points or nights. The chart is enclosed below.

Bottomline

IHG has launched the first significant promotion for 2021, offering bonus elite points and reward points after each stay of two or more nights. IHG rewards club has reduced requirements for earning status in 2021 as well, and 2020’s stays also will count towards 2021 status earning.
